ELLE 80th Anniversary Art Auction: Empowering Women Through Art

Art as a voice for change.

It has been an honor to be part of the ELLE 80th Anniversary Art Auction—a global initiative celebrating the courage and creativity of women around the world.

Organized by ELLE International in partnership with Artcurial, this special project gathered 31 women artists across cultures and generations. Each was invited to create a unique artwork to mark the magazine’s 80th anniversary. These pieces have been showcased across four cities—Osaka, Bangkok, New York, and Paris—before going to auction.

A Scroll of Transformation

My contribution to this project is a hanging scroll titled “Journey.”

Rooted in traditional Japanese calligraphy yet expressed in a contemporary format, the piece speaks of metamorphosis, inner strength, and the beauty of becoming. It was inspired by the idea that even ink on paper can carry a spirit of motion—like the unfolding lives of the women this project honors.

An Auction for Impact

The ELLE 80th Anniversary Art Auction will take place on November 14, 2025, at 4:00 PM (France time), hosted by Artcurial Paris.

All proceeds will be donated to CARE, supporting global programs that empower women and girls through education, advocacy, and entrepreneurship.

This initiative is more than an exhibition—it’s a statement. A declaration of the enduring mission of ELLE: to amplify women’s voices and promote diversity, courage, and transformation through creative expression.

Gratitude and Reflection

Participating in this project reminded me that art does more than decorate walls—it connects us, moves us, and sometimes even changes us.

It was a profound experience to stand alongside such talented women and see our works come together in one space.

To all those who joined the exhibition in Paris and to those who continue to support from afar—thank you. May these works continue to ripple out, inspiring change where it’s needed most.

Fuh-mi-san, it must feel like a major accomplishment to be recognized amongst so many other women who make significant impacts in the world. Again, my heartiest congratulations for this honor as I consider it deserving. Calligraphy, especially Japanese calligraphy, is not often outside of Japan. Some may appreciate it as art. You bring meaning, not only by your expression in the form that takes place, but also in the meditation as you create it, and the sharing of perspectives in meaning. You are right: art does more than decorate walls—it connects us, moves us, and sometimes even changes us.

I also am excited for you that you were able to travel to Paris for the ELLE event. I hope you took time t…

Thank you so much for your warm words.

Yes—being part of the ELLE event in Paris was a true honor, and I’m deeply grateful.

Your understanding of calligraphy’s inner depth means a lot to me.
